Ten Thousand Fists

Lyrical Interpretation

Ten Thousand Fists - The song carries the signature idea of the beginnings of a classic revolution. In the lyrics, it is just another day but the revolution is on its way. It proclaims that the image of the raised fist, let alone ten thousand, is enough to spark the revolution. It also says that the image is so powerful that it is will cause people to walk away awe struck.

Deify - In spite of Draiman’s claims that he is not religious, he uses religious imagery frequently. The process of deification, or more simply the title deify, is the action of becoming like God. Thus, the song is a response to some supporters of former president George Bush who, Draiman contended, viewed him as such. The song opens with Bush’s speech to spread peace in the world during the conflict in the Middle East. The song has Draiman proclaiming that he will fight the image and powerfully proclaims “You’re no immortal, I won’t let them deify you.”

Land of Confusion - This song was originally written by the group Genesis. Although Disturbed did not change the message or meaning of the song, they did put their own touch on it through the music video. The video Genesis produced used puppets to act out international affairs while Disturbed uses the drawings of the Todd McFarlane studio. Both show the unease of political leaders at their respective time periods. As Disturbed’s “religion” is accomplished through society coming together, the video features “The Guy” leading the people against evil towards a utopia.
